We would visit the caverns

I in the boat with you

To mosey into the darkness

That consumed the earth below

Our feet carelessly troddening over

Cavities within our home

It’s not the obsidian oblivion that those seek

Nor the bats that scatter the ceilings like stars

But the captivating crystals

Glittering geodes

That were formed from such an absence

I imagine that’s what

I look like inside

Without your feet striding along mine

Knowing that your warmth can’t comfort me

And your breath doesn’t escape your lips

I hope the cavity that will be everlasting

The piece of you forever missing

Is lined with such beauty

From your love and memories

It’d be worthy

Of floating down into darkness with you

Again
